Facilitating a Smile with Luna, Calgary’s Child and Youth Advocacy Centre

As part of our mission to spread joy and happiness throughout our community, each month we’ve made it our goal to donate our dolls to those in need.

This month, we’ve selected an organization whose work and mission truly moved us. That organization is Luna, Calgary’s Child and Youth Centre.

Luna (previously known as the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre), has been in operation since 2013 and works directly with children, youth, and families who have been impacted by abuse. Since opening their doors, they have supported over 25 000 children, youth, and families.

What makes Luna so unique is that they take a multidisciplinary approach in supporting those who seek their services. In the past, those who’ve experienced abuse would’ve had to go to multiple places to share their story. Now, they can tell their story once and receive the support they deserve.

Their facility is home to over 140 experts who work collaboratively on each case. These experts come from various fields; Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Alberta Justice, Calgary Police Service, Alberta Health Services (Medical & Therapy), Children and Family Services, and Victim Services. Together they listen, support and empower those along their healing journey.

Upon visiting their location, we were amazed at how safe, welcoming, and child friendly their facility was.

For this donation, we donated 20 of our Sweetheart Girl Dolls. Our dolls will be placed within their Toy Room to help bring smiles to children who are experiencing extremely difficult times.

After the donation, two of their staff members offered to give our team member Marisa a tour.

She was in awe of how beautiful their facility was and how they made a space where experts can all work together. Luna is truly something special, and we’re so grateful to have had the opportunity to support their mission with our dolls.

Thank you Luna.
